Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
