'People are fearful' - the reasons 'powerhouse' Arsenal have become the side to defeat.

There's little doubt why Arsenal stand as countless pundits' preferred choice to win the Premier League this season.

Consider their outcomes against Newcastle and Crystal Palace in contrast with those identical matches last season.

The Gunners have defeated all of them this time around, but surrendered 10 points across those games as they faded in the title race in the prior campaign.

Defensive Prowess

Arsenal's defensive strength is a crucial element why they are looking well positioned to at last realize their title goal.

They rank top for clean sheets (6), shots let in (3), attempts against (72), dangerous chances allowed (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba is potentially the finest in the league, with Arsenal keeping a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Dead-Ball Superiority

Their threat from set-pieces is widely recognized, but opposition teams still don't know how to stop the Gunners from these situations.

They have notched 11 times from set-pieces in the league, two more than any other side, with 69% of their goals originating from these situations.

"Arsenal can perform multiple roles now. The whole team has a fear factor. People are just fearful of them and it is wonderful to see."

Championship Pedigree

What is particularly notable about Arsenal's start to the campaign is they have also encountered Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United on the road and Manchester City in their own stadium - and are still ahead by four points at the top.

While they keep winning, their historic competitors are struggling. This marks the premier instance at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The scrutiny was on head coach Mikel Arteta at the outset, having invested around £250m on eight summer additions in pursuit of that elusive first title since 2004.

But the business has so far yielded results in impressive fashion, with his side second top scorers in the league and having the tightest defense, despite numerous injuries.

  • Clean sheets in three consecutive Premier League games
  • Over six hours without letting in a goal
  • Only a handful of concessions in 12 games across various contests

Former players and pundits have labeled Arteta's men as a "juggernaut, looking challenging to stop" with the whole club now operating with belief and determination.
