RAF Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a combined operation targeting an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory operated by the Daesh militant organization, per a report from the UK Ministry of Defence.
The facility, pinpointed through reconnaissance, was believed to be containing munitions and bombs, the announcement noted, and was located in mountains just to the north of the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our aircraft employed Paveway IV guided bombs to target a series of access tunnels leading to the facility... preliminary assessments suggest the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no sign of any civilian impact in the attack late on Saturday and all the aircraft returned to base without incident, the defence officials confirmed.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
Daesh - referred to as Daesh - established extremist governance over parts of Iraq and Syria until 2019.
"This action demonstrates British leadership, and commitment to work closely with our partners, to eradicate any resurgence of the terrorist group and their violent and radical beliefs in the area," the British Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary said.
British military aircraft have performed overwatch operations over Syria to "prevent any efforts to regroup" of the group subsequent to its routing at the climactic battle in Baghuz in 2019, the authorities noted.
"I must thank all the members of the UK armed forces involved in this strike for their professionalism and their courage," Healey commented. "They were part of a great many British troops stationed over the festive period. This action, to eliminate dangerous terrorists who endanger our security, highlights how British military are ready to step up, all year round, protecting the UK at home and powerful internationally."
In December, the US military carried out what it described as a "massive strike" on IS targets in the country, following an attack resulted in the deaths of two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter in the Palmyra area.
The UN estimates IS still boasts roughly 5-7 thousand militants in both countries.
